Yokhanan 16 – יוחנן טז

t.o.c.

1“I have spoken these things to you so that you may not stumble.  2For they will put you out of their Beit K’nessets; and the hour will come that whoever kills you will think that he has offered an offering to Elohim.  3And these things they will do because they have not known Avi, nor me.  4I have spoken these things to you that when their time does come, you may remember them, and that I told you. And these things I did not tell you before because I was with you.  5But now I am going to Him who sent me, and yet no one of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’  6But because I told you these things, sorrow has come and filled your hearts.”

7“But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I should go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I should go, I will send it to you.  8And when it is come, it will rebuke the world concerning khata, concerning tzedaka, and concerning mishpat; 9concerning khata, because they do not believe in me; 10concerning tzedaka, because I go to Avi and you will not see me again; 11concerning mishpat, because the leader of this world has been judged.  12Again, I have many other things to tell you, but you cannot grasp them now.  13But when The Ru’akh HaEmet is come, it will guide you into all the truth; for it will not speak from itself, but what it hears it will speak; and it will make known to you things which are to come in the future.  14It will glorify me, because it will take of my own and show it to you.  15Everything that Avi has is mine; this is the reason why I told you that it will take of my own and show it to you.  16A little while, and you will not see me; and again a little while, and you will see me, because I am going to HaAv.”

17Then His Talmidim said to one another, “What is this that He said to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see me; and again a little while, and you will see me;’ and, ‘because I am going to Avi?’”  18And they said, “What is this that He said, ‘A little while?’ We cannot understand what He talks about.”  19Yeshua knew that they desired to ask Him, and He said to them, “Are you inquiring among yourselves concerning this that I told you, ‘a little while, and you will not see me; and again a little while, and you will see me?’  20Amein, Amein, I say to you, that you will weep and wail, and yet the world will rejoice; and you will be sad, but your sadness will be changed into gladness.  21When a woman is in labor, she is troubled because her day has arrived; but when she has given birth to a son, she no longer remembers her troubles because of the joy that a male child is born into the world.  22So you also are troubled; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no man will take away from you.”

23“In that day you will not ask me anything. Amein, Amein, I say to you, that whatever you ask Avi in my Name, He will give it to you.  24Hitherto you have asked nothing in my Name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be full.  25I have spoken these things in mishlim; but the time is coming when I will not speak to you in mishlim, but will plainly explain to you concerning HaAv.  26In that day you will ask in my Name; and I will not say to you, ‘I will ask HaAv concerning you.’  27For HaAv Himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came forth out of HaAv.”

28“I came forth out of HaAv and I came into the world; again, I am leaving the world and I am going to HaAv.”  29His Talmidim said to Him, “Behold, now you speak plainly and do not utter a single mashal.  30Now we understand that you know everything, and you need no man to ask you; by this we trust, that you have come forth out of Elohim.”  31Yeshua said to them, “Trust; 32for behold, the hour is coming, and it has now come, when you will be dispersed, every man to his own place, and you will leave me alone; and yet I am never alone because HaAv is with me.  33These things I have said to you that in me you may have shalom. In the world you will have tribulation; but have courage, I have conquered the world.”
