Ivrim 7 – איגרת שאול אל העברים ז


1For this Malki Tzedek was King of Shalem, the Kohen of El Elyon, who met Avraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, 2and to whom Avraham also set aside a tenth part from the choice things he had with him. His name is interpreted ‘Righteous King,’ and again, ‘King of Shalem,’ which means ‘Melekh Shalom.’  3Neither His father nor His mother is recorded in the genealogies; and neither the beginning of His days nor the end of His life; but, in fashion of Ben HaElohim, His ministry abides forever.  4Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Avraham gave a tenth part and paid bikkurim.  5For those sons of Levi who received the office of the kohen were authorized by Torah to take tenth-parts from the people, even from their own brethren who also had come out of the loins of Avraham.  6But this man, who is not recorded in their genealogies, took tenth-parts even from Avraham, and blessed him who had received the promises.  7Beyond dispute, he who was less was blessed by Him who was greater than himself.  8And here mortal men receive tenth-parts; but there, He, of whom the scripture testifies that He lives, receives them.  9Speaking as a man, through Avraham, even Levi, who received tenth-parts, also gave tenth-parts.  10For he was yet in the loins of his forefather Avraham when Malki Tzedek met him.

11If therefore perfection had been reached by the Levitical Kohanim by which the Torah was enacted for the people, what further need was there that another kohen should rise after the order of Malki Tzedek?  Otherwise, the scriptures would have said that He would be after the order of Aharon.  12Since there was an alteration in the priestood, so also there was an alteration in the instruction.

13For He, concerning whom these things are spoken, was born of another tribe, from which no man ever ministered at the Mizbe’akh.  14For it is evident that Adoneinu sprang out of Yehudah, of which tribe Moshe said nothing concerning the Kohanim.  15And yet it is far more evident because he said that another kohen would  rise  after the order of Malki Tzedek, 16one who was not appointed after the instruction of earthly commandments, but after the power of Khayim, which abides forever.  17For He testified concerning Him, “You are a kohen forever after the order of Malki Tzedek.”  18For the alteration which took place in the former mitzvah was made on account of its weaknesses, and because it had become useless.  19For the Torah made nothing perfect, but there has come in its place a better hope, by which we draw near to Elohim.  20And He confirmed it for us by an oath.  21For they were made Kohanim without oaths; but this one was made a kohen with an oath, as it was said concerning Him by David, ” יהוה  has sworn, and will not lie, You are a kohen forever after the order of Malki Tzedek.”  22All these things lift up this Brit, because Yeshua is its surety.  23And these Kohanim were many, because they were mortal and they were not permitted to continue because of death; 24but this one, because He is immortal, has a ministry which remains forever.  25Therefore He is able to save forever those who come to Elohim by Him, because He lives forever to make intercession for them.  26For this is the kind of Kohen Gadol who is proper for us: pure, without evil, and undefiled, far away from sin, and made higher than the heavens; 27and who needs not daily, as do those chief Kohanim, to offer up sacrifices, first for their own sins, and then for the people’s; for this He did once when He offered up Himself.  28For the Torah appoints imperfect men as Kohanim; but the D’var of the Oath which came after the Torah appoints HaBen, who is perfect for evermore.
