Khayei Sarah 1Now Melekh David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he could get no heat. 2Therefore his servants said unto him, “Let there be sought for my Adon HaMelekh a young virgin; and let her stand before HaMelekh, and be a companion unto him; and let her lie in your bosom, that my Adon HaMelekh may get heat.” 3So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the borders of Yisra’el, and found Avishag the Shunamit, and brought her to HaMelekh. 4And the damsel was very fair; and she became a companion unto HaMelekh, and ministered to him; but HaMelekh knew her not.
5Now Adon-Yah Ben Khagit exalted himself, saying, “I will be king”; and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. 6And his father had not grieved him all his life in saying, “Why have you done so?” And he was also a very goodly man; and he was born after Avshalom. 7And he conferred with Yo’av Ben Tz’ru-Yah, and with Evyatar the Kohen; and they, following Adon-Yah, helped him. 8But Tzadok the Kohen, and Benah-Yahu Ben Yehoyadah, and Natan HaNavi, and Shimi, and Re’i, and the mighty men that belonged to David, were not with Adon-Yah. 9And Adon-Yah slew sheep and oxen and fatlings by the stone of Zokhelet, which is beside Ein Rogel; and he called all his brethren the sons of HaMelekh, and all the men of Yehudah the servants of HaMelekh; 10but Natan HaNavi, and Benah-Yahu, and the mighty men, and Shlomo his brother, he called not.
11Then Natan spoke unto Bat Shevah the mother of Shlomo, saying, “Have you not heard that Adon-Yah Ben Khagit does reign, and David our Adon knows it not? 12Now therefore come, let me, I pray, give you counsel, that you may save your own life, and the life of your son Shlomo. 13Go and get yourself in unto Melekh David, and say unto him, ‘Did you not, my Adon, O Melekh, swear unto your handmaid, saying, ‘Assuredly Shlomo your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? Why then does Adon-Yah reign?’ 14Behold, while you yet talk there with HaMelekh, I also will come in after you, and confirm your words.”
15And Bat Shevah went in unto HaMelekh into the chamber. Now HaMelekh was very old; and Avishag the Shunamit ministered unto HaMelekh. 16And Bat Shevah bowed, and prostrated herself unto HaMelekh. And HaMelekh said, “What would you have?” 17And she said unto him, “My Adon, you did swear by יהוה your Elohim unto your handmaid, ‘Assuredly Shlomo your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne’. 18And now, behold, Adon-Yah reigns; and you, my Adon HaMelekh, know it not. 19And he has slain oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of HaMelekh, and Evyatar the Kohen, and Yo’av the captain of the host; but Shlomo your servant has he not called. 20And you, my Adon HaMelekh, the eyes of all Yisra’el are upon you, that you should tell them who shall sit on the throne of my Adon HaMelekh after him. 21Otherwise it will come to pass, when my Adon HaMelekh shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Shlomo shall be counted offenders.”
22And, lo, while she yet talked with HaMelekh, Natan HaNavi came in. 23And they told HaMelekh, saying, “Behold Natan HaNavi.” And when he was come in before HaMelekh, he bowed down before HaMelekh with his face to the ground. 24And Natan said, “My Adon, O Melekh, have you said, ‘Adon-Yah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne’? 25For he is gone down this day, and has slain oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of HaMelekh, and the captains of the host, and Evyatar the Kohen; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, ‘Long live king Adon-Yah’. 26But me, even me your servant, and Tzadok the Kohen, and Benah-Yahu Ben Yehoyadah, and your servant Shlomo, has he not called. 27Is this thing done by my Adon HaMelekh, and you have not declared unto your servant who should sit on the throne of my Adon HaMelekh after him?”
28Then Melekh David answered and said, “Call for me Bat Shevah.” And she came into the presence of HaMelekh, and stood before HaMelekh. 29And HaMelekh swore and said, “As יהוה lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity, 30truly, as I swore unto you by יהוה Elohei Yisra’el, saying, ‘Assuredly Shlomo your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead’; truly, so will I do this day.” 31Then Bat Shevah bowed with her face to the earth, and prostrated herself to HaMelekh, and said, “Let my Adon Melekh David live forever.” end Khayei Sarah
32And Melekh David said, “Call me Tzadok the Kohen, and Natan HaNavi, and Benah-Yahu Ben Yehoyadah.” And they came before HaMelekh. 33And HaMelekh said unto them, “Take with you the servants of your Adon, and cause Shlomo my son to ride upon my own mule, and bring him down to Gikhon. 34And let Tzadok the Kohen and Natan HaNavi anoint him there king over Yisra’el; and blow with the shofar, and say, ‘Long live Melekh Shlomo’. 35Then you shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be Melekh in my stead; and I have appointed him to be prince over Yisra’el and over Yehudah.” 36And Benah-Yahu Ben Yehoyadah answered HaMelekh, and said, “Amein; so say יהוה , the Elohim of my Adon HaMelekh. 37As יהוה has been with my Adon HaMelekh, even so may He be with Shlomo, and make his throne greater than the throne of my Adon Melekh David.”
38So Tzadok the Kohen, and Natan HaNavi, and Benah-Yahu Ben Yehoyadah, and the K’reti and the P’leti, went down, and caused Shlomo to ride upon the mule of Melekh David, and brought him to Gikhon. 39And Tzadok the Kohen took the horn of oil out of the Tent, and anointed Shlomo. And they blew the shofar; and all the people said, “Long live Melekh Shlomo.” 40And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.
41And Adon-Yah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Yo’av heard the sound of the shofar, he said, “Why is this noise of the city being in an uproar?” 42While he yet spoke, behold, Yehonatan Ben Evyatar the Kohen came; and Adon-Yah said, “Come in; for you are a worthy man, and bring good tidings.” 43And Yehonatan answered and said to Adon-Yah, “Truly, our Adon Melekh David has made Shlomo Melekh. 44And HaMelekh has sent with him Tzadok the Kohen, and Natan HaNavi, and Benah-Yahu Ben Yehoyadah, and the K’reti and the P’leti, and they have caused him to ride upon the mule of HaMelekh. 45And Tzadok the Kohen and Natan HaNavi have anointed him Melekh in Gikhon; and they are come up from there rejoicing, so that the city is in an uproar. This is the noise that you have heard. 46And also Shlomo sits on the throne of the Melukhah. 47And moreover the servants of HaMelekh came to bless our Adon Melekh David, saying, ‘Elohim make the name of Shlomo better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne’; and HaMelekh bowed down upon the bed. 48And also thus said HaMelekh: Blessed be יהוה Elohei Yisra’el, who has given one to sit on my throne this day, my eyes even seeing it.” 49And all the guests of Adon-Yah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way.
50And Adon-Yah feared because of Shlomo; and he arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the Mizbe’akh. 51And it was told Shlomo, saying, “Behold, Adon-Yah fears Melekh Shlomo; for, lo, he has laid hold on the horns of the Mizbe’akh, saying, ‘Let Melekh Shlomo swear unto me first of all that he will not slay his servant with the sword’.” 52And Shlomo said, “If he shall show himself a worthy man, there shall not a hair of him fall to the earth; but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die.” 53So Melekh Shlomo sent, and they brought him down from the Mizbe’akh. And he came and prostrated himself before Melekh Shlomo; and Shlomo said unto him, “Go to your house.”
אוְהַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִד זָקֵן בָּא בַּיָּמִים; וַיְכַסֻּהוּ בַּבְּגָדִים וְלֹא יִחַם לוֹ. בוַיֹּאמְרוּ לוֹ עֲבָדָיו יְבַקְשׁוּ לַאדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ נַעֲרָה בְתוּלָה וְעָמְדָה לִפְנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ וּתְהִי לוֹ סֹכֶנֶת; וְשָׁכְבָה בְחֵיקֶךָ וְחַם לַאדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ. גוַיְבַקְשׁוּ נַעֲרָה יָפָה בְּכֹל גְּבוּל יִשְׂרָאֵל; וַיִּמְצְאוּ אֶת אֲבִישַׁג הַשּׁוּנַמִּית וַיָּבִאוּ אֹתָהּ לַמֶּלֶךְ. דוְהַנַּעֲרָה יָפָה עַד מְאֹד; וַתְּהִי לַמֶּלֶךְ סֹכֶנֶת וַתְּשָׁרְתֵהוּ וְהַמֶּלֶךְ לֹא יְדָעָהּ.
הוַאֲדֹנִיָּה בֶן חַגִּית מִתְנַשֵּׂא לֵאמֹר אֲנִי אֶמְלֹךְ; וַיַּעַשׂ לוֹ רֶכֶב וּפָרָשִׁים וַחֲמִשִּׁים אִישׁ רָצִים לְפָנָיו. ווְלֹא עֲצָבוֹ אָבִיו מִיָּמָיו לֵאמֹר מַדּוּעַ כָּכָה עָשִׂיתָ; וְגַם הוּא טוֹב תֹּאַר מְאֹד וְאֹתוֹ יָלְדָה אַחֲרֵי אַבְשָׁלוֹם. זוַיִּהְיוּ דְבָרָיו עִם יוֹאָב בֶּן צְרוּיָה וְעִם אֶבְיָתָר הַכֹּהֵן; וַיַּעְזְרוּ אַחֲרֵי אֲדֹנִיָּה. חוְצָדוֹק הַכֹּהֵן וּבְנָיָהוּ בֶן יְהוֹיָדָע וְנָתָן הַנָּבִיא וְשִׁמְעִי וְרֵעִי וְהַגִּבּוֹרִים אֲשֶׁר לְדָוִד לֹא הָיוּ עִם אֲדֹנִיָּהוּ. טוַיִּזְבַּח אֲדֹנִיָּהוּ צֹאן וּבָקָר וּמְרִיא עִם אֶבֶן הַזֹּחֶלֶת אֲשֶׁר אֵצֶל עֵין רֹגֵל; וַיִּקְרָא אֶת כָּל אֶחָיו בְּנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ וּלְכָל אַנְשֵׁי יְהוּדָה עַבְדֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ. יוְאֶת נָתָן הַנָּבִיא וּבְנָיָהוּ וְאֶת הַגִּבּוֹרִים וְאֶת שְׁלֹמֹה אָחִיו לֹא קָרָא.
יאוַיֹּאמֶר נָתָן אֶל בַּת שֶׁבַע אֵם שְׁלֹמֹה לֵאמֹר הֲלוֹא שָׁמַעַתְּ כִּי מָלַךְ אֲדֹנִיָּהוּ בֶן חַגִּית; וַאֲדֹנֵינוּ דָוִד לֹא יָדָע. יבוְעַתָּה לְכִי אִיעָצֵךְ נָא עֵצָה: וּמַלְּטִי אֶת נַפְשֵׁךְ וְאֶת נֶפֶשׁ בְּנֵךְ שְׁלֹמֹה. יגלְכִי וּבֹאִי אֶל הַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִד וְאָמַרְתְּ אֵלָיו הֲלֹא אַתָּה אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ נִשְׁבַּעְתָּ לַאֲמָתְךָ לֵאמֹר כִּי שְׁלֹמֹה בְנֵךְ יִמְלֹךְ אַחֲרַי וְהוּא יֵשֵׁב עַל כִּסְאִי; וּמַדּוּעַ מָלַךְ אֲדֹנִיָּהוּ. ידהִנֵּה עוֹדָךְ מְדַבֶּרֶת שָׁם עִם הַמֶּלֶךְ; וַאֲנִי אָבוֹא אַחֲרַיִךְ וּמִלֵּאתִי אֶת דְּבָרָיִךְ.
טווַתָּבֹא בַת שֶׁבַע אֶל הַמֶּלֶךְ הַחַדְרָה וְהַמֶּלֶךְ זָקֵן מְאֹד; וַאֲבִישַׁג הַשּׁוּנַמִּית מְשָׁרַת אֶת הַמֶּלֶךְ. טזוַתִּקֹּד בַּת שֶׁבַע וַתִּשְׁתַּחוּ לַמֶּלֶךְ; וַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ מַה לָּךְ. יזוַתֹּאמֶר לוֹ אֲדֹנִי אַתָּה נִשְׁבַּעְתָּ בַּיהוה אֱלֹהֶיךָ לַאֲמָתֶךָ כִּי שְׁלֹמֹה בְנֵךְ יִמְלֹךְ אַחֲרָי; וְהוּא יֵשֵׁב עַל כִּסְאִי. יחוְעַתָּה הִנֵּה אֲדֹנִיָּה מָלָךְ; וְעַתָּה אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ לֹא יָדָעְתָּ. יטוַיִּזְבַּח שׁוֹר וּמְרִיא וְצֹאן לָרֹב וַיִּקְרָא לְכָל בְּנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ וּלְאֶבְיָתָר הַכֹּהֵן וּלְיֹאָב שַׂר הַצָּבָא; וְלִשְׁלֹמֹה עַבְדְּךָ לֹא קָרָא. כוְאַתָּה אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ עֵינֵי כָל יִשְׂרָאֵל עָלֶיךָ: לְהַגִּיד לָהֶם מִי יֵשֵׁב עַל כִּסֵּא אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ אַחֲרָיו. כאוְהָיָה כִּשְׁכַב אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ עִם אֲבֹתָיו; וְהָיִיתִי אֲנִי וּבְנִי שְׁלֹמֹה חַטָּאִים.
כבוְהִנֵּה עוֹדֶנָּה מְדַבֶּרֶת עִם הַמֶּלֶךְ; וְנָתָן הַנָּבִיא בָּא. כגוַיַּגִּידוּ לַמֶּלֶךְ לֵאמֹר הִנֵּה נָתָן הַנָּבִיא; וַיָּבֹא לִפְנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ לַמֶּלֶךְ עַל אַפָּיו אָרְצָה. כדוַיֹּאמֶר נָתָן אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ אַתָּה אָמַרְתָּ אֲדֹנִיָּהוּ יִמְלֹךְ אַחֲרָי; וְהוּא יֵשֵׁב עַל כִּסְאִי. כהכִּי יָרַד הַיּוֹם וַיִּזְבַּח שׁוֹר וּמְרִיא וְצֹאן לָרֹב וַיִּקְרָא לְכָל בְּנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ וּלְשָׂרֵי הַצָּבָא וּלְאֶבְיָתָר הַכֹּהֵן וְהִנָּם אֹכְלִים וְשֹׁתִים לְפָנָיו; וַיֹּאמְרוּ יְחִי הַמֶּלֶךְ אֲדֹנִיָּהוּ. כווְלִי אֲנִי עַבְדֶּךָ וּלְצָדֹק הַכֹּהֵן וְלִבְנָיָהוּ בֶן יְהוֹיָדָע וְלִשְׁלֹמֹה עַבְדְּךָ לֹא קָרָא. כזאִם מֵאֵת אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ נִהְיָה הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה; וְלֹא הוֹדַעְתָּ אֶת עבדיך (עַבְדְּךָ) מִי יֵשֵׁב עַל כִּסֵּא אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ אַחֲרָיו.
כחוַיַּעַן הַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִד וַיֹּאמֶר קִרְאוּ לִי לְבַת שָׁבַע; וַתָּבֹא לִפְנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ וַתַּעֲמֹד לִפְנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ. כטוַיִּשָּׁבַע הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיֹּאמַר: חַי יהוה אֲשֶׁר פָּדָה אֶת נַפְשִׁי מִכָּל צָרָה. לכִּי כַּאֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּעְתִּי לָךְ בַּיהוה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר כִּי שְׁלֹמֹה בְנֵךְ יִמְלֹךְ אַחֲרַי וְהוּא יֵשֵׁב עַל כִּסְאִי תַּחְתָּי: כִּי כֵּן אֶעֱשֶׂה הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה. לאוַתִּקֹּד בַּת שֶׁבַע אַפַּיִם אֶרֶץ וַתִּשְׁתַּחוּ לַמֶּלֶךְ; וַתֹּאמֶר יְחִי אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִד לְעֹלָם.
לבוַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִד קִרְאוּ לִי לְצָדוֹק הַכֹּהֵן וּלְנָתָן הַנָּבִיא וְלִבְנָיָהוּ בֶּן יְהוֹיָדָע; וַיָּבֹאוּ לִפְנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ. לגוַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ לָהֶם קְחוּ עִמָּכֶם אֶת עַבְדֵי אֲדֹנֵיכֶם וְהִרְכַּבְתֶּם אֶת שְׁלֹמֹה בְנִי עַל הַפִּרְדָּה אֲשֶׁר לִי; וְהוֹרַדְתֶּם אֹתוֹ אֶל גִּחוֹן. לדוּמָשַׁח אֹתוֹ שָׁם צָדוֹק הַכֹּהֵן וְנָתָן הַנָּבִיא לְמֶלֶךְ עַל יִשְׂרָאֵל; וּתְקַעְתֶּם בַּשּׁוֹפָר וַאֲמַרְתֶּם יְחִי הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה. להוַעֲלִיתֶם אַחֲרָיו וּבָא וְיָשַׁב עַל כִּסְאִי וְהוּא יִמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּי; וְאֹתוֹ צִוִּיתִי לִהְיוֹת נָגִיד עַל יִשְׂרָאֵל וְעַל יְהוּדָה. לווַיַּעַן בְּנָיָהוּ בֶן יְהוֹיָדָע אֶת הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיֹּאמֶר אָמֵן: כֵּן יֹאמַר יהוה אֱלֹהֵי אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ. לזכַּאֲשֶׁר הָיָה יהוה עִם אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ כֵּן יהי (יִהְיֶה) עִם שְׁלֹמֹה; וִיגַדֵּל אֶת כִּסְאוֹ מִכִּסֵּא אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִד.
לחוַיֵּרֶד צָדוֹק הַכֹּהֵן וְנָתָן הַנָּבִיא וּבְנָיָהוּ בֶן יְהוֹיָדָע וְהַכְּרֵתִי וְהַפְּלֵתִי וַיַּרְכִּבוּ אֶת שְׁלֹמֹה עַל פִּרְדַּת הַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִד; וַיֹּלִכוּ אֹתוֹ עַל גִּחוֹן. לטוַיִּקַּח צָדוֹק הַכֹּהֵן אֶת קֶרֶן הַשֶּׁמֶן מִן הָאֹהֶל וַיִּמְשַׁח אֶת שְׁלֹמֹה; וַיִּתְקְעוּ בַּשּׁוֹפָר וַיֹּאמְרוּ כָּל הָעָם יְחִי הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה. מוַיַּעֲלוּ כָל הָעָם אַחֲרָיו וְהָעָם מְחַלְּלִים בַּחֲלִלִים וּשְׂמֵחִים שִׂמְחָה גְדוֹלָה; וַתִּבָּקַע הָאָרֶץ בְּקוֹלָם.
מאוַיִּשְׁמַע אֲדֹנִיָּהוּ וְכָל הַקְּרֻאִים אֲשֶׁר אִתּוֹ וְהֵם כִּלּוּ לֶאֱכֹל; וַיִּשְׁמַע יוֹאָב אֶת קוֹל הַשּׁוֹפָר וַיֹּאמֶר מַדּוּעַ קוֹל הַקִּרְיָה הוֹמָה. מבעוֹדֶנּוּ מְדַבֵּר וְהִנֵּה יוֹנָתָן בֶּן אֶבְיָתָר הַכֹּהֵן בָּא; וַיֹּאמֶר אֲדֹנִיָּהוּ בֹּא כִּי אִישׁ חַיִל אַתָּה וְטוֹב תְּבַשֵּׂר. מגוַיַּעַן יוֹנָתָן וַיֹּאמֶר לַאֲדֹנִיָּהוּ: אֲבָל אֲדֹנֵינוּ הַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִד הִמְלִיךְ אֶת שְׁלֹמֹה. מדוַיִּשְׁלַח אִתּוֹ הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶת צָדוֹק הַכֹּהֵן וְאֶת נָתָן הַנָּבִיא וּבְנָיָהוּ בֶּן יְהוֹיָדָע וְהַכְּרֵתִי וְהַפְּלֵתִי; וַיַּרְכִּבוּ אֹתוֹ עַל פִּרְדַּת הַמֶּלֶךְ. מהוַיִּמְשְׁחוּ אֹתוֹ צָדוֹק הַכֹּהֵן וְנָתָן הַנָּבִיא לְמֶלֶךְ בְּגִחוֹן וַיַּעֲלוּ מִשָּׁם שְׂמֵחִים וַתֵּהֹם הַקִּרְיָה; הוּא הַקּוֹל אֲשֶׁר שְׁמַעְתֶּם. מווְגַם יָשַׁב שְׁלֹמֹה עַל כִּסֵּא הַמְּלוּכָה. מזוְגַם בָּאוּ עַבְדֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ לְבָרֵךְ אֶת אֲדֹנֵינוּ הַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִד לֵאמֹר יֵיטֵב אלהיך (אֱלֹהִים) אֶת שֵׁם שְׁלֹמֹה מִשְּׁמֶךָ וִיגַדֵּל אֶת כִּסְאוֹ מִכִּסְאֶךָ; וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ הַמֶּלֶךְ עַל הַמִּשְׁכָּב. מחוְגַם כָּכָה אָמַר הַמֶּלֶךְ: בָּרוּךְ יהוה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר נָתַן הַיּוֹם יֹשֵׁב עַל כִּסְאִי וְעֵינַי רֹאוֹת. מטוַיֶּחֶרְדוּ וַיָּקֻמוּ כָּל הַקְּרֻאִים אֲשֶׁר לַאֲדֹנִיָּהוּ; וַיֵּלְכוּ אִישׁ לְדַרְכּוֹ.
נוַאֲדֹנִיָּהוּ יָרֵא מִפְּנֵי שְׁלֹמֹה; וַיָּקָם וַיֵּלֶךְ וַיַּחֲזֵק בְּקַרְנוֹת הַמִּזְבֵּחַ. נאוַיֻּגַּד לִשְׁלֹמֹה לֵאמֹר הִנֵּה אֲדֹנִיָּהוּ יָרֵא אֶת הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה; וְהִנֵּה אָחַז בְּקַרְנוֹת הַמִּזְבֵּחַ לֵאמֹר יִשָּׁבַע לִי כַיּוֹם הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה אִם יָמִית אֶת עַבְדּוֹ בֶּחָרֶב. נבוַיֹּאמֶר שְׁלֹמֹה אִם יִהְיֶה לְבֶן חַיִל לֹא יִפֹּל מִשַּׂעֲרָתוֹ אָרְצָה; וְאִם רָעָה תִמָּצֵא בוֹ וָמֵת. נגוַיִּשְׁלַח הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה וַיּוֹרִדֻהוּ מֵעַל הַמִּזְבֵּחַ וַיָּבֹא וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ לַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה; וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ שְׁלֹמֹה לֵךְ לְבֵיתֶךָ.
