Yehoshua 5 – יהושע ה

t.o.c.

1And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amori that were beyond the Yarden westward, and all the kings of the Kena’ani that were by the sea, heard how that  יהוה  had dried up the waters of the Yarden from before B’nei Yisra’el, until they were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of B’nei Yisra’el.

2At that time  יהוה  said unto Yehoshua, “Make yourself knives of flint, and circumcise again B’nei Yisra’el the second time.” 3And Yehoshua made him knives of flint, and circumcised B’nei Yisra’el at Givat HaAralot. 4And this is the cause why Yehoshua did circumcise: all the people that came forth out of Mitzrayim that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came forth out of Mitzrayim. 5For all the people that came out were circumcised; but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Mitzrayim had not been circumcised. 6For B’nei Yisra’el walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the nation, even the men of war that came forth out of Mitzrayim, were consumed, because they hearkened not unto the voice of  יהוה , unto whom  יהוה  swore that He would not let them see the land which  יהוה  swore unto their fathers that He would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey. 7And He raised up their children in their stead; them did Yehoshua circumcise; for they were uncircumcised, because they had not been circumcised by the way. 8And it came to pass, when all the nation were circumcised, every one of them, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

9And  יהוה  said unto Yehoshua, “This day have I rolled away the reproach of Mitzrayim from off you.” Therefore the name of that place was called Gilgal, unto this day. 10And B’nei Yisra’el encamped in Gilgal; and they kept the Pesakh on the fourteenth day of the month at dusk in the plains of Yerekho. 11And they did eat of the produce of the land on the morrow after the Pesakh, unleavened cakes and parched grain, in the selfsame day. 12And the manna ceased on the morrow, after they had eaten of the produce of the land; neither had B’nei Yisra’el manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Kena’an that year.

13And it came to pass, when Yehoshua was by Yerekho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand; and Yehoshua went unto him, and said unto him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?” 14And he said, “Nay, but I am Sar Tzevah  יהוה  ; I am now come.” And Yehoshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said unto him,  “What does my Adon say unto his servant?” 15And the captain of the Army of  יהוה  said unto Yehoshua, “Put off your shoe from your foot; for the place whereon you stand is Kadosh.” And Yehoshua did so.
