1“When יהוה your Elohim shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it, and shall cast out many nations before you, the Khiti, and the Girgashi, and the Amori, and the Kena’ani, and the Perizi, and the Khivi, and the Yevusi, seven nations greater and mightier than you; 2and when יהוה your Elohim shall deliver them up before you, and you shall smite them; then you shall utterly destroy them; you shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them; 3neither shall you make marriages with them: your daughter you shall not give unto his son, nor his daughter shall you take unto your son. 4For he will turn away your son from following Me, that they may serve other gods; so will the anger of יהוה be kindled against you, and He will destroy you quickly. 5But thus shall you deal with them: you shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and hew down their Asherim, and burn their graven images with fire. 6For you are a consecrated people unto יהוה your Elohim: יהוה your Elohim has chosen you to be His own treasure, out of all peoples that are upon the face of the earth. 7 יהוה did not set His love upon you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people, for you were the fewest of all peoples, 8but because יהוה loved you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore unto your fathers, has יהוה brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Paroh king of Mitzrayim. 9Know therefore that יהוה your Elohim, He is Elohim; the faithful Elohim, who keeps covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His Mitzvot to a thousand generations; 10and repays them that hate Him to their face, to destroy them; He will not be slack to him that hates Him, He will repay him to his face. 11You shall therefore keep the Mitzvah, and the Khukot, and the Mishpatim, which I command you this day, to do them.”
Parashat Ekev
12“And it shall come to pass, because you hearken to these Mishpatim, and keep and do them, that יהוה your Elohim shall keep with you the Brit [covenant] and the Khesed [compassion] which He swore unto your fathers, 13and He will love you, and bless you, and multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your body and the fruit of your land, your grain and your choice wine and your oil, the increase of your kine and the young of your flock, in the land which He swore unto your fathers to give you. 14You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle. 15And יהוה will take away from you all sickness; and He will put none of the evil diseases of Mitzrayim, which you know, upon you, but will lay them upon all them that hate you. 16And you shall consume all the peoples that יהוה your Elohim shall deliver unto you; your eye shall not pity them; neither shall you serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto you. 17If you shall say in your heart, ‘These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?’ 18You shall not be afraid of them; you shall well remember what יהוה your Elohim did unto Paroh, and unto all Mitzrayim: 19the great trials which your eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, whereby יהוה your Elohim brought you out; so shall יהוה your Elohim do unto all the peoples of whom you are afraid. 20Moreover, יהוה your Elohim will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and they that hide themselves, perish from before you. 21You shall not be affrighted at them; for יהוה your Elohim is in the midst of you, El Gadol v’Nora. 22And יהוה your Elohim will cast out those nations before you little by little; you may not consume them quickly, lest the beasts of the field increase upon you. 23But יהוה your Elohim shall deliver them up before you, and shall discomfit them with a great discomfiture, until they are destroyed. 24And He shall deliver their kings into your hand, and you shall make their name to perish from under heaven; there shall no man be able to stand against you, until you have destroyed them. 25The graven images of their gods shall you burn with fire; you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it unto you, lest you be snared therein; for it is an abomination to יהוה your Elohim. 26And you shall not bring an abomination into your house, and be accursed like unto it; you shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is a devoted thing.”
